Diner Song
04:38
|
|||
It’s two am but I’ve been tired since five
I drive and drive, finally there’s a diner on the right
The parking lot is gravel and the door needs grease
Two eggs sunny side up, extra cream for the coffee please
I eat like it’s my last, but it goes down like wax
and there’s a pit in my stomach I’m scared to fall in
Why was there a gun, why was he there, did I kill him
questions with answers I know don’t matter now
But if I could turn around and drive back
if I could just come home, one last time to a house
with just her waiting, with our love still whole
and I cry, now a child at forty-four
A killer married to a whore
When she comes back for the check
I think about surrendering myself right then and there
but fear grips me deep and I choke
I’m happy I never had a son, to see what I’ve become

Catch a Break
03:55
|
|||
World I am ready to settle down
world I am ready for my grand prize
I’ll take the 8 hours a day, 5 days a week,
I’ll take the gym membership too
Let's make a kid, let's buy a dog
Let's make love on the weekends
Let's pack all our lunch to go
in themed lunch bags of our favorite TV shows
we’d go and go and go, until we were old
retired, and spent and fragile
we’d lay in matching hospital beds
and close our eyes in tandem
It isn’t much, I'll say
But for now I will wait
Stay at home, laying in bed
Hoping they won't come and take it away from me
Corporate administrative secretarial assistant
Paraprofessional intermediate level three
Who's ready to hire me I've got
references available on request
I'll be your little money whore
Snap fat fingers and I'll perform
Unsubsidized Stafford loans
Economy five star retirement homes

Buried Love
03:25
|
|||
We’ve all been wronged
by the one we love
but I’ve been more
wronged than most
more hurt than most
So I made a plan, I found a way
I’m going to put my love, so far away
deep in the ground
I’m gonna bury my love in the ground
put her down beneath the earth
I’m going to bury my love in the ground
Deep in soil, covered in dirt
my love will have no air to breath
her lungs will rot, she will fade away
Shovel in hand, no regrets
It must be done, and she must confess
What she did to my kind loving heart
I’m going to bury
my love in the ground
put her down
beneath the earth
I’m going to bury my love in the ground
Now the deed is done
my love is gone
No flowers are left
no stone marks the spot
And if I was wrong
what have I done

Jeanie
03:06
|
|||
Jeanie, you’re the right kind of girl
but they've grown used to you so
Step back into place
accept it with grace
Jeanie, they’ll never love you
the way that
you love yourself
No one here cares if you stay or you go
but of one thing we can be absolutely sure
They’ll all miss you when you die
Wait, it’s not so bad
they still want you around
though you’re on the shelf
you can still watch from above
San Francisco waits
like a promised land to the East
you can leave when you please
it won’t change anything
No one here cares if you stay or you go
but of this one thing we can be absolutely sure
They’ll only miss you when you die
Jeanie baby it's not so bad you know
this city is hard but then so are we
it won’t love or want or care for you
No one here cares if you stay or you go
but of this one thing we can be absolutely sure
They’ll all miss you when you die

Man Comes Home
04:36
|
|||
It’s five o clock but I’ve been tired since two
I pack my bags yet again
and drive up my street
and I can’t wait to hold you
in the next minute I’ll be okay
The door’s unlocked, the lights are off
I make my way down the hall for the last time
Through the breach, I hear sounds
and my skin is screaming stay away
but I push through, into our room
wait stop, oh no, you’re not alone
I hesitate, and he jumps at me
And all I see are your stiff eyes
I'm covered in tears, covered in blood
I don’t know why or how but there is a gun in my hands
I’m pulling the trigger
and one problem's gone
but more are soon coming
so I'll run

Czech Poetry

|

Under my breath
I say strange lands I roam
Less of a stranger there
than when at home
Swiftly they pass me by
Tender green vines
Tall slender pines
Like freeways shrouded in fog
I could not tell
to speed up or slow down
But you knew then
you stayed behind
as I chose to go on
Under my breath
I say strange lands I roam
Less of a stranger there
than when at home
Swiftly they pass me by
Tender green vines
Tall slender pines
I could see
the birds in your eyes
flying away
over Altamont pass
Last time I was there
you would stay
would leave
Doesn't matter now
I don’t remember at all
Pressing my nose
against passenger window
Staring at lazy windmills
wondering at the breeze
Caught in the blades
Could I be there
sitting on the side of a hill
Watching cars go by
Under my breath
I say strange lands I roam
Less of a stranger there
than when at home
Upward the mountain-tops
Dreamily gaze,
Olive-trees tinting them
silvery grey
